Rugby is a game for the girls

DRYBROOK Rugby Club are expanding their girls’ section this season.
The club will be running their own under-12s, 15s and 18s teams, playing matches on Sundays.
The Squirrels have always led the way when it comes to promoting the female game.
In recent seasons numbers have dwindled, but now the club is looking to fight back by launching extra teams.
Section manager Mandy Meredith said: “We’ve got mainly under-15s at the moment but we want to create a wider age span. Anyone can play rugby, regardless of size, shape or ability.”
Mark Graham and Craig Wintle will coach the girls. Last season, eight girls from the club attended county trials, with four getting into the Gloucestershire squad.
Beth Graham, Kat Brain and Beth Hewitt went on to represent the South West team.
England A player Natasha Hunt began her rugby career as a young player with Drybrook, while Ceri Large now plays for Worcester after starting out at The Mannings.
The girls toured Weymouth in 2009 and next year there will be a tour to Torquay.
Pre-season training has already started on Wednesday evenings (6.30-8pm).
