LAST WEEK was an eventful one for former United manager Frank O’Farrell.

Babbacombe-based O’Farrell, 82, happily now back in the Plainmoor fold after being cold-shouldered for far too long, spent two days at the club being interviewed and filmed for a documentary being made on him by Eire’s RTE service.

Among the other people taking part was the former

After successful spells as manager of Weymouth, Torquay and Leicester, O’Farrell spent a frustrating 18 months in charge at Old Trafford (1971-72) in the wake of Sir Matt Busby’s retirement, trying to rebuild an ageing side living on past glories.

Meek defended O’Farrell when he was sacked, which did him no favours with the Old Trafford hierarchy.

The documentary is due to be screened in October.

Cork-born O’Farrell, who had a fine playing career with West Ham, Preston and Eire, also managed Iran, Cardiff City, the United Arab Emirates and Torquay again.

It’s a great shame that his time at Old Trafford has often been used to define what is a proud record by any standards.

But Frank said: “Eighteen months out of my career is a very short time, and not as important as some people have tried to make it.

“So it’s nice that RTE wanted to make a film about my whole life, right from when I started working on the railway in Cork through to now.”

Then, after two days in front of the camera, O’Farrell found himself being ‘snapped’ again last Saturday.

As always, he bought a 50-50 Draw ticket before United’s opening match of the League Two season against Northampton Town — and then won the top prize!
