The town has history, good shopping and is buzzing. The shops are good, plenty of places to eat, a good cinema (do not forget Orange Wednesday's). There are many sites to see in the locality, wonderful beaches and views. The town is not over commercialised in favour of holiday makers, all of whome are more than welcome. This means the town retains much of its diversification and history which adds colour to the town. rt in.
The parking is horrendusly expensive, Poole is much cheaper and has more shops. Placing a park and ride near Morrisons may be good for visitors, but not locals, after all why should I travel from Wyke Regis to Morrisons to get the Park and Ride into the town? Come to that, if I was a visitor with children, in town for the beach etc, why would I park at the Park and Ride and lug children, the dog, picnics, chairs, windbreaks etc to the beach? I would want to park on the seafront to be as near as possible to the beach. Another failing is the "New Road". This has always been a joke. It should travel from the end of the Dual carriageway across country to Weymouth to alleviate traffic conjestion along main routes past Dorchester and onwards west. The new road is just moving the conjestion from one end of Dorchester Road to the other. The only people who will benifit are the residents of Dorchester Road, whose house prices will rise rapidly due to the removal of traffic. Or so they believe. I think that whils throuh traffic will bypass the road, there will still be delivery trucks, buses and local traffic.
