Weymouth gastro pub, The Riverhouse Inn in Upwey has sampled what Weymouth College’s JobShop has to offer and has given it five stars. Lorraine D’Agostino, a partner in The Riverhouse Inn, promoted a part-time time vacancy through the College’s new JobShop and was very happy with the response.

“The JobShop is free to use which is a bonus with advertising being so expensive, so we thought we would give it a go. We hoped that by targeting people that are at college we would be able to fill a permanent part-time vacancy with extra shifts available in the school holidays.”

Lorraine found it easy and straightforward to register with the JobShop and was very happy with the instant response of applicants that they received. “I would definitely use this service again; I have already recommended the JobShop to other businesses and I am happy to do so.”

Since then the position has been secured by Laura Brown, a first year A Level student at Weymouth College studying Law, Psychology, Sociology and Government & Politics. It is hoped that Laura will remain in the position whilst she is at College and possibly during the holidays should she go onto university as planned.

Lorraine also added: “I am only sorry that for the last 16 years that we have been in business Weymouth College’s JobShop has not been available!”

Weymouth College have recently launched their new online JobShop to help local businesses find young talent to fill their part-time vacancies. The simple to use system is free for employers to register their part-time job opportunities and free for students to receive a weekly email update.

Careers & Higher Education Advisor, Andy Watson explains: “We have local employers calling us all the time asking if we have students suitable for their part-time vacancies but it was always difficult to let every student know about what was on offer. Now all employers have to do is sign up to the JobShop, register the opportunity and every student who is registered with the JobShop will have the option to apply.”

Andy added: “From May 2011, the JobShop will also be accepting full-time vacancies for students who have completed their studies.”

A lot of students look for part-time or full-time jobs while they are studying, so it's good to see a jobs agency who specialises in finding students work. Most of them even want to work hard too.
