Weymouth College students and staff celebrated today after achieving the best ever results for A Levels for the second year running; the outstanding performance of 100% surpassing the 2009/10 national average. But that wasn’t the only good news, the number of students gaining A*-C grades had increased to over 81%, an increase of over 7% on the previous year.
The results were a reflection of the hard work and total commitment of students and staff at the College, which says its inclusive environment and dedication to offering excellent learning opportunities to all students are proven in the results. Students thrive in an atmosphere of opportunity and aspiration. Last year it was in the top 10% of schools and colleges for A Level results, proof that a caring and supportive environment yields excellent results. Weymouth College’s A Level results were once again amongst the best in the region and this performance further enhances the College’s reputation as a provider of high quality learning.
Weymouth College Principal Sue Moore commented: “We’d like to congratulate all our students on their achievements today in both AS and A Levels and wish them every success in the future. We also look forward to welcoming some of our students back when they start their degree courses with us this September.”
All A Level subjects offered at the College earned 100% pass rates. A Level students on Photography, Law, Mathematics, Media Studies and Psychology had an outstanding performance with six gaining the new A* standard. In total, the A Level students clocked up 6 A*, 13 A, 45 B and 77 C grades while the AS Level students gained a superb total of 42 A, 98 B and 114 C grades.
A special mention should also go to the group of adult students who took 19 A Levels between them and gained 100% pass rate at A*-C grades.
In all categories the boys proved themselves to be slightly ahead of the girls. In the overall A Level results at the College over 83% of males gained A*-C grades in comparison to nearly 80% of females.
Rowan Smith, who lives in Frampton, was among the first to receive the new A* grade: “I’m got two A*s in Media and Psychology and 2 As in Maths and Business Studies plus I also got an A* in my Extended Research Project. I am off to Loughborough University to study BSc (Hons) Banking, Finance & Management this September. I’ve had two of the best years of my life at Weymouth College – it’s just great!”
Sam Grant, from Weymouth, was elated when she picked up her results from the College: “I’ve done so much better than I thought I would! I got an A* for Media, A for Photography and B for English Language. I have a place at the University for the Creative Arts in Farnham to study Photography next year and am taking a year out to get some work experience.”

I hate it when people say that. It's not fair on all those young people who have worked so hard. I really feel sorry for those who are going to miss out on a Uni place.

ReportWith all these kids doing so well at A level, can't help thinking they're getting easier. Just seems they just have to do well in a few modules, retaking here and there and can get top marks.
