This
Saturday 18 September, an exciting event featuring international film, music,
food and dancing is taking place at Weymouth’s historic Old Town Hall.
The
event is being held by the South West Dorset Multicultural Network (SWDMCN) and
Weymouth & Portland Borough Council, in partnership with the Old Town Hall
and Dorset Police.
It’s designed to celebrate multiculturalism in our
community and help ‘break the ice’ for people of black and other minority
ethnic backgrounds who are new to the borough. The event will launch a new ‘Community
Contacts’ scheme, a volunteer-led service set up by the SWDMCN to provide
a friendly first point of contact for BME people who face language barriers or
prejudice.
The
event is free, and will be held throughout the day and evening, from 2pm-11pm
in order to cater for both families and adults. All are welcome!
Programme of events:
2pm: Introductory presentation
3pm: International short film screenings
6pm: Introduction to evening activities
7-11pm: Reggae DJ set from DJ Wilford and the ‘Steel
Bar’ sound system
7-11pm: Caribbean food served
Refreshments, info and advice available throughout the day.
