of our beautiful beaches.
Dorset Countryside Service is calling on any volunteers who can spare a few
hours on to help get our beaches looking spick and
span.
This is the second autumn beach clean organised by the service, which is run by the county council. It's got two big aims:
1. To clean five Dorset beaches of litter washed up and left behind
2. To monitor the type of rubbish found to find out where it’s coming from and how to reduce it
The following beaches will be cleaned and monitored between 10am and noon:
• Chesil Cove, Portland – meet at promenade by the Cove
• Abbotsbury Beach – meet at the beach car park
• Bowleaze Cove, Weymouth – meet at the slipway
• Ringstead Beach and Bay, near Weymouth – meet at the bottom car park
• Chapmans Pool, near Worth Matravers – meet at the boat ramp
The five beaches have been chosen to fill gaps in the information
already collected to support the international anti-marine pollution
initiative organised by the Marine Conservation Society.
The beach clean will enable the county council and partners to get a
better picture of the increasing litter problem on our beaches.
If you are interested in taking part, contact Dorset Countryside Coastal Ranger Jenny Penney on (01305) 756792 or j.penney@dorsetcc.gov.uk
or turn up on the day. Bring your friends and appropriate clothing and
footwear for this time of the year. On arrival, ask for the beach
master, who will supply you with plenty of instructions, gloves and
bags.
