Police in Weymouth are appealing for help from
the public following an alleged domestic assault in the town – with one
man being arrested.
The incident, in which a man allegedly grabbed
hold of a 48-year-old Weymouth woman, happened along Newstead Road, near
the Asda supermarket, at around 9.55am on Saturday, 14 August 2010.
The woman was uninjured.
Investigations Officer Sue Graham, of Weymouth
police, said: “I understand that a number of people were around at the
time of this incident and it’s possible that they may have seen what
happened.
“In particular, I believe that a woman, possibly
aged in her forties, stopped her car as she was driving out of the
nearby Asda store.
“This woman left her vehicle and talked to the man and woman involved before getting back into her car and driving off.
“It’s also understood that a First Choice bus
stopped at a nearby bus stop. Again, it’s entirely possible that the
passengers and driver may be able to help me to find out exactly what
happened.
“I would urge anyone who witnessed this incident to contact me – in confidence – as soon as possible.”
A 49-year-old Weymouth man was arrested and has been released on bail while enquiries continue.
Witnesses and anyone with information should
call Dorset Police in confidence on 01305 222 222 or the free and
anonymous Crimestoppers line on 0800 555 111 where mobile phone tariffs
may apply.
