Colin Douglas, 25, had been on the run for 55 hours when he was spotted driving round the Westham area of Weymouth. Police gave chase for an hour, backed up by firemen, traffic police, police dogs and the Force helicopter.
The drama ended when he crashed his car in Broadmayne and tried to escape into a wooded area on foot. He was pursued and arrested in West Knighton. Wessex FM is reporting that Douglas was still thought to be in possession of a firearm at the time of the police chase.
Clive Chamberlain, the chairman of Dorset Police Federation, has congratulated officers on the operation. He broke the news of the arrest on Twitter in the early hours of this morning when he Tweeted: “Congratulations to my colleagues - huge amount of work gone into this suspect apprehended.”
