The installation of a new pedestrian and cycle bridge over a busy Weymouth road has been put back by one week.

Contractors tasked with placing the bridge over Newstead Road have reorganised the work programme, with the steel deck’s delivery pushed back and other tasks brought forward.

Newstead Road will now be closed in both directions from 7pm on Friday, February 10, until 6am on Monday, February 13, while the bridge is lifted into place.

After this, the northbound closure will be reinstated until the bridge is completed, which is on schedule for March 6.

The bridge is the centrepiece of the Rodwell Trail and being funded by Dorset County Council and Sustrans as part of its Big Lottery Fund scheme Connect2.
