Rubbish and recycling might not be collected next week if council workers are going on strike in Weymouth and Portland.

Public sector employees across the whole country are taking part in an industrial dispute next Wednesday (30 November). They are striking over pension changes that will see them pay more and work for longer.

Council chief David Clarke, who is chief executive of both West Dorset District and Weymouth and Portland Borough councils, has warned that there could be disruption to street services.

He said: "Everything possible will be done to minimise inconvenience to the public during the nationwide industrial action, which is likely to take place on 30 November.  We expect disruption will be minimal.

"If you have non-urgent business with the council please contact us before or after 30 November.  Residents due to have their rubbish and recycling collected on that day should put it out as normal, as efforts will be made to keep services going.  If services are disrupted, residents should take back their rubbish and recycling and put it out again the following day for collection."

Other services that could be impacted are schools, the law courts, job centre, Police Community Support Officers and the Land Registry. More information about the impact of industrial action will  be posted on www.dorsetforyou.com
