VQ Day - Weymouth College shouts about student success

VQ (Vocational qualifications) day is about celebrating Vocational Achievement and Weymouth College has plenty to shout about. The government acknowledges their value by and is investing in vocational educational routes for school leavers. VQ day is all about telling stories about real students and their vocational success.

Lewis Asquith, Helen King, Yatin Parekh, Shelby Tompkins
Whilst studying Level 2 and 3 Beauty Therapy, Suzanne Scott opened up her own beauty salon in addition to looking after the family."As a mature student I completed the application forms with apprehension of not really knowing what to expect. I wondered whether I would fit in, if I would be the oldest on the course and if I could cope with going back to education. After the first interview with the Hair and Beauty department my worries were laid to rest, the tutor was very reassuring and helpful."
Yatin Parekh, despite English being his second language is just completing the BTEC L3 in Travel & Tourism and has secured work following his work experience placement. Yatin, who is a student diplomat said "If you want to see the world for free and have your own business this is the course for you. Great college!! Great staff!!"
Carl Quartermaine, selected as the Media Student of the year, is on the BTEC Creative Media Production (Film & TV) and hopes to go onto University, he said "I enjoy the freedom to be creative and the friendliness of all the staff and students."
Lewis Asquith has secured a well-regarded place at the UK's only conservatoire of music and contemporary dance, Trinity Laban. Lewis is currently on the BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Performing Arts and will be going to study a BA (Hons) Musical Theatre at the prestigious school in September. "It's great that students at Weymouth College have the opportunity to work with professional companies, the standard is very high. I am thrilled to have gained a place at Trinity Laban as it was my first choice."
Helen King started at Level 1 and has just completed Level 3 in Hairdressing despite barriers to learning. "I struggle with exams and reading but the college have been ever so helpful by having different coloured paper to make reading easier and extra time for exams. I have loved my time at Weymouth College and I will be sad to leave."
Shelby Tompkins was selected for being a model student on the L3 Health and Social Care course. "I like having coursework to do rather than exams and I like the variety of subject areas we study. I have really enjoyed my experience at the college, it has been a pleasure to come here." Shelby hopes to have future work as a social worker either in child protection or crime related such as an policewomen."
