Silver medal winner Nick Dempsey demonstrated his support to keep marine and beach litter out of Dorset's beauty spots, by riding on a windsurf sculpture made of collected beach litter.

The materials were collected by local school children before the summer holidays and the items, such as plastic bags, bottles, cans and fishing ropes have been crafted together by local artist Claire Nuttell.

Unfortunately marine and beach litter costs the taxpayer an awful lot every year and the impact on marine life can be devastating.

Matilda Bark from the Dorset Coast Forum explains that: 'Dorset has some of the best beaches in the country and we are keen to keep the beaches litter free during the sailing events. The sculpture has been created to promote the local "Litter Free Coast & Sea" campaign and to grab visitor's attention so we can ask them to help look after our coast.'

The sculpture can be viewed at the Fine foundation Centre on Chesil Beach.
