BE AN OLYMPIC AMBASSADOR

Volunteers are needed to help welcome visitors to Weymouth and Portland during the Olympics next year. The area is staging the Olympic and Paralympic

sailing which, together with the cultural events planned during the summer of

2012, are expected to attract over 500,000 extra visitors to the area.

To

help welcome these visitors, up to 800 volunteers, known as Weymouth &

Portland Ambassadors, are required. Over 650 applications have already been

received but more are still needed.

Anyone

who'll be over the age of 16 on January 31st 2012 and is passionate about Dorset

is eligible, but with a closing date for applications of 17 October 2011 there are only a few

weeks left to apply. There are more details about applying to become a Weymouth & Portland

    I saw some of the people practising for this during Weymouth Carnival. It looks really worthwhile and I hope it makes visitors feel really welcome. We've really got to pull together as a town next year to make the most of the Olympics, it could be fantastic.
