At around 12.50am on Tuesday, 14 June, Dorset Police received a report of a sudden death at an address on the High Street in Fortuneswell on Portland. Paramedics confirmed the woman, who is believed to have been in her forties, had died at the scene. The death is being treated as suspicious, and forensic officers are currently combing the scene. House-to-house enquiries are also being made.
Police say the death is "unexplained." They arrested a man aged 55 in connection with this matter, but he has now been released on police bail whilst further enquiries are made.
No formal identification has yet been made, so therefore police will not release details of the deceased at this time. However, the Dorset Echo has named the woman who died and the man arrested/released.
Detective Inspector Marcus Hester of Weymouth CID is heading up the case. The coroner has been notified, and the woman's next of kin also know she has died.
