Yesterday saw Nothe Fort open its Evacuation Experience to visitors of all ages. The popular Weymouth attraction regularly performs the experience for schools however this half-term week it has opened it up to paying visitors.

The experience recreates the lives of children evacuated to Weymouth during World War 2. Children dress to the period, carry gas masks and experience 1940s life.

Activities include lessons in the Fort's schoolroom, experiencing rationing and the limited range of foods available compared to today. Children visit a 1940s kitchen and learn how to wash clothes without a washing machine. They also get a recreation of an air raid.

Tickets for Wednesday's Evacuee Experience have sold out but there will be another on Friday 22nd February - visit the website to book.
