Police officers trying to identify an unknown deceased man are appealing for help from the public as a body has been found in Weymouth.

At 9.14am on Friday 20 January police received a report of a body floating in the Lodmoor nature reserve, along Preston Road.

The body was recovered by officers from Dorset Police marine section. But they cannot find out who he is. There are no suspicious circumstances and the coroner has been notified.

Do you recognise the person from this description given by the police?

The man is described as white, in his late fifties to mid sixties, five feet eight inches to five feet ten inches tall and of heavy build. He was clean shaven and has dark short receding hair with a bald patch.

He was wearing a black waterproof coat with a hood over a brown zip up jumper and blue jeans with black shoes. A pair of light brown, wide framed spectacles were found in a coat pocket.

Police are appealing for anyone who may know the identity of this man to contact Dorset Police on the non-emergency number 101, quoting incident number 20: 86.

Tragically, this is the second dead body to be found in Weymouth this week. At 9.50am on Tuesday 17 January, Dorset Police received a report that the body of an unidentified man had been discovered by workmen surveying the grounds behind building works at New Look, Mercery Road in Weymouth.

Detectives from CID in Weymouth attended the scene, together with Dorset Police scene investigators. A cordon was put in place and the coroner was notified.

The body is believed to be that of Nicholas Crocker who had been reported missing since September 2011.

Detective Inspector Stewart Dipple said: "Having examined the scene we do not suspect any third party involvement in the sad death of the man we believe to be Nicholas Crocker."

These feel like bad times in Weymouth. Lots of tragic deaths for this time of year - there was also that murder on Portland at Christmas time. With these two other gentlemen's deaths mentioned in this article, police say there are no suspicious circumstances - perhaps this means they took their own lives. Wonder how much the recession is pushing some poor people over the edge?
