Dorset on Alert for Severe Weather - 22/11/12

Emergency services are warning Dorset residents to be on their guard and make plans as more severe weather is forecast for the county from 4pm today (22/11/12).

High winds and heavy rains are due to batter the county for the rest of the afternoon and evening, falling on already saturated ground with localised flooding expected.

Dorset Fire and Rescue, along with police and ambulance crews are on standby to deal with a predicted increase of emergency calls over the next few hours.

Motorists are being warned to travel only if absolutely necessary, use headlights at all times and not to enter standing water unless they're fully confident that it is not deep.

Dorset Fire and Rescue Service rescued 20 people from floodwater yesterday.
