An initiative to reward unsung heroes within the Weymouth and Portland communities has been launched by West Dorset District Council.
The council has pairs of sailing tickets at this summer's 2012 Olympic Games to give away to 35 community heroes, and it is asking for help from the town's residents.
Nominations are now being accepted to honour people who have made a significant contribution towards the local community, undertaken charitable work or accomplished any other personal achievements which deserve recognition.
Brief holder for Partnerships and Special Projects, Howard Legg, said: “It is great that we can offer the chance for people that have made a difference to the community the opportunity to enjoy the sailing action from the Nothe Gardens.”
The Nothe Gardens, which overlook Weymouth and Portland Bays, will offer a unique atmosphere and excellent vantage point for 4,600 spectators each day during the Olympic sailing events.
A free live site on Weymouth beach with two giant screens will allow a further 15,000 spectators without tickets to enjoy the sailing action with live commentary by the BBC.
Weymouth and Portland will be the largest Olympic and Paralympic venue outside London, with up to 60,000 spectators and visitors expected to visit per day.
